August is Women Owned Business Month at Erewhon. This time the spotlight is on Jennifer Eden and Gaby Alves, cofounders of Tampon Tribe. They are definitely two women full of energy and optimism!

What inspired you to start this business?

Both Gaby and I are passionate about all women having access to the highest quality organic products that love bodies – we noticed that there were very few certified organic cotton tampons, pads or pantyliners available and even fewer that were plastic free and actually worked! So we started Tampon Tribe and reinvented how feminine hygiene is presented, used and embraced!

What advice would you give to your teenage self?

Be bold! Go confidently in the direction of your dreams at all times; and always look on the bright side of life.

As a female entrepreneur, what are the pros of being a woman in charge of your own business?

I think it’s great to organize every day in an efficient and productive way – women are fabulous at identifying what needs to done and getting straight to it! Both Gaby and I have spent our lives solving problems and inventing cool ways of doing things, which we do on a daily basis with Tampon Tribe. It’s also great to be able to work at a high frequency together – we love getting things done and moving on to new tasks.

How does your product appeal to all different types of women?

Organic, plastic-free, cool packaging, great for bodies and the environment – what’s not to love! Ha. Earth-focused women love that we are completely compostable and ICEA certified, healthy women love that we are GOTS organic certified, cool women love our modern packaging and forward-thinking approach to our brand and new products and all women embrace being part of Tampon Tribe 😉 !

Name three things that guided you to success.

1. Experience and business savvy 2. Market knowledge and life and 3. Pure passion and relentlessness!

Describe your brand in 3 words.

Awesome, body-loving, aspirational.

What does balance mean to you?

Having it all! Balance is just what we all do every day – we love our business, our friends, family; we love our life – balance to us is life.

What three things can you not live without?

Avocados, sunglasses, the ocean.

What is one piece of advice for aspiring female entrepreneurs?

Follow your dreams. Be amazing at what you do and don’t let anyone stand in your way.

What’s your superpower?

Mind-reading – of sorts.

One wellness hack that everyone should know

Use Tampon Tribe Pantyliners in the armpits of your shirts on sweaty days – they are super thin and ensure zero wet areas!

Where did your passion for health and beauty come from?

Both Gaby and my passion comes from our parents. I grew up in Australia and my mother and father were completely into healthy living (the still are at 80 and 73!) We had an abundance of health food, natural products and spent summers, and most of the year, enjoying the outdoors – they also owned a health food store! Gaby grew up in Brazil and her parents also are really into everything natural – her mom grows veges, bakes and uses all natural products – her father is also super healthy – I guess it’s in our blood!

What makes you feel beautiful?

Walking out of the ocean into the sunshine.

who are 3 inspirational women we should follow and why?

Jane Goodall, who acts from her heart, mind and soul and has transformed the way young people touch the environment. Michelle Obama – such a strong role mode. Margaret Eden and Cida Oliveira – our mothers! For being ridiculously awesome, for always supporting and encouraging us, and for being badass women in their 70s.

What is the title of your autobiography?

A Life Well Lived

What do you love about Erewhon 🙂

Everything! The quality and beauty in placement, in products, in easy and in experience – it’s like walking into a sanctuary of health, wellness and pure beauty.
