This month, we are shining the spotlight on Women Owned Businesses at Erewhon. Dr. Colette Widrin is passionate, knowledgeable, and an absolute delight to speak with and learn from.
I was inspired to start my business when I began to see and measure the effects of Chinese medicine on my patients when I was in school. I soon realized that Chinese medicine filled a gap that Western medicine could not even fully comprehend. I became empowered to help to fill the space and I created my businesses.
I would tell my teenage self that hard work and dedication will eventually pay off. To remember that things take time to blossom. Be patient and identify your goals, even if they shift over time.
I can’t imagine a more exciting time to be a female entrepreneur than right now. I’m excited to ride the 4th wave, control my own schedule and create a business that I love. The biggest pro for me is that I created something that works in a way where the fruits of my labor create positive outcomes in the health and wellness of my customers. I’m very grateful and lucky to be able to do what I do.
I created Balance Blends with the modern woman of all ages and races as my muse. What’s common to all women? We get anxious, as life’s balance can be difficult to manage. So I created Just Breathe to take the edge off of the struggles we face as women in an organic and healthy way! Menstrual cramps are the worst; so I created Cramp Whisperer to ease menstrual pain that can be debilitating to some women.
Healthy rest and sleep is essential to every woman alive today. The effects of technology, stress and toxins can create sleep issues. Quiet Please creates a holistic and natural way to rest comfortably, without the foggy hangovers of traditional over the counter sleep remedies.
A love for Eastern Medicine and a unique understanding of each patient’s individual needs in my practice. Developing great relationships with my patients, as well as my contemporaries in other health and wellness related fields. Staying educated and constantly researching new trends in health and wellness and finding applications based on ancient Eastern principles.
Holistic. Balanced. Mindful.
For me, balance happens when your mind, body and spirit are connected and you are able to effortlessly operate from that place. Balance then transfers to your life, work etc. Not so easy!
I cannot live without hydrogen water, smoothies from Erewhon and my Balance Blends herbs, of course!
Learn how to play the long game gracefully. It takes time to build a business, and success and failure are different sides of the same coin.
Because I am sensitive to people’s energies, I can deliver bad news in a calm, collected way.
Diet is everything. Your skin, hair, nails, weight, brain function, and hormones are all affected by your diet. When you wrap your head around that, dramatic changes in your weight, appearance, cognitive function and mental health can happen.
My passions for health and beauty came from years of dedicated research to finding holistic solutions to health and beauty issues that work and won’t break the bank. I also had a very glamorous French grandmother who made health and beauty potions from various plants that she grew in her garden. She ate organic before there was even a term for it. She was truly ahead of her time! She instilled those same things in me.
I feel beautiful when I have a healthy night’s rest, have been following my health and wellness routines and have made a difference in someone else’s life.
Angelina Jolie is a great example of a humanitarian, with her work and editorial writing on the world’s refugee crisis. She’s also a great example of someone who turned her life around and surrendered to a greater purpose. It’s never too late to make positive changes in your life or in the world.
Supermodel Magadelena Frakiowack is hilarious on Instagram, yet she delivers a message that is so simple, but so hard to practice: BE CONFIDENT.
Natalie Madeira Cofield is an another inspiration. Drawing on Walker’s Legacy and its associated partnerships, and her professional experience, she’s created an incubator that provides mentoring and guidance for entrepreneurs who are women of color. Women supporting women!! Love it!
